Still a volunteer at 94 years old
When Arthritis New Zealand needed a local volunteer to help promote its cause and raise some money, the man to put his hand up was a 94 year old World War 2 veteran. Maurice Abrahams is a legend in Nelson. He still plays in the Nelson Brass Band, has served as a Freemason for more than 70 years and volunteers for Arthritis NZ after developing two forms of arthritis. Along with his partner Sue, Maurice leads an active life and part of it is volunteering at the Ngawhatu swimming pool, where he is a trained lifeguard. “But I only save the ladies,” he joked. Last week he and Sue spent two hours at Z petrol station in Halifax St, where he worked as a “community concierge” washing windows and greeting customers. He handed out orange tokens which his customers could use to vote for Arthritis NZ and help the charity receive cash from Z, through its Good in the Hood promotion. Maurice says he got relief from his treatment so wanted to give back, but he wasn’t sure if he’d be offered a job after his efforts. “Sue’s right into it and I just follow along, but when people respond you feel good.”

Noisy plane’s 6am landing A noisy New Zealand Post aeroplane is expected to land in Nelson at 6am every day for at least three weeks, which could wake people from their sleep, admits Nelson Airport Ltd. NZ Post will bring its mail from the North Island to Nelson for three to four weeks in April, as an upgrade of navigation equipment is carried out at Blenheim Airport,
where it usually goes. The work in Blenheim means the plane – a Fokker 27 Friendship – will arrive in Nelson each day at 6am and its noise will have a “noticeable” impact. But the 6am landing is much better than 3am, which is when NZ Post usually flys in and the time they had proposed to land in Nelson. Nelson Airport Ltd chief execu-
tive Kaye McNabb says the delay to 6am will have a big impact on NZ Post, but they weren’t willing to have such an impact on locals during the middle of the night. “If the aircraft arrived at 3am I am sure we would be inundated with calls wondering what was going on,” says Kaye. “After discussions with the operator it was agreed the aircraft would delay its ar-
rival until 6am, to minimise the effect. The changed schedule will have a significant impact on NZ Post with the inevitable flow on effect through the distribution and delivery chain, so we’re pleased that the operator has been so willing to co-operate for the benefit of local residents.” The first early morning landing is expected to be on April 7.

Top crowd for Harvest Fare
More people attended this year’s Sprig & Fern Summer Harvest Fare, and the organisers say it had a relaxed, family atmosphere. Kim Quint of Richmond Unlimited says feedback from the stall holders was all positive, and that this year’s event attracted more people than ever before. The agreement with the $100 million Next Foundation was signed by conservation minister Nick Smith. Boy racers ‘need to be stopped’
Residents of a Stoke neighbourhood fear it’s just a matter of time until someone is killed by a speeding car on their street. At around 10pm last Wednesday night, a car driving from Main Rd Stoke turned onto Maitland Ave and did a burn out stretching almost 100 metres. It weaved over both sides of the road, woke up residents and is the final straw for many of them, demanding the police do something to stop the behaviour. Home owner Bonnie Fabish says there have been several burn outs in the street over the past few weeks but speeding cars have been a problem for several years. “I’m scared because there are loads of kids and oldies out here. We’ve been calling the police for three years but it gets to the stage where you say ‘what’s the point?’” John Scowan says Wednesday’s incident woke him up and by the time he ran onto the street other neighbours were already there and furious. “One neighbour got his number plate and we jumped in the van to go find them. We saw the car parked around the corner but the police didn’t come around.” He says the neighbour tried to

Chris Fabish says he has followed one of the speeding cars in the past and told them to slow down but fears if nothing is done other neighbours will go looking to solve the problem themselves. “When no one does anything, that’s when you get the vigilante groups and get confrontations. It’s sad we’re starting to think like that.” Another neighbour Anne, who didn’t want her surname printed, says she’s been scared that someone will be killed for a number of years. “They weave

all over the road and are totally out of control. Someone will be killed here one day and it will be too late to do something after that.” The residents say they either want more of a police presence on the street to catch the speeding cars or judder bars installed to slow the speeding cars down. Police area commander Steve Greally says he’s had a lot of feedback since his column in Nelson Weekly last week, which focussed on boy racers. “I am very happy that members of the community are letting us know where and when these incidents are taking place. Police are committed to preventing this type of activity.”

Air NZ ‘left me humiliated’

A Nelson man says Air New Zealand has let itself down with rude staff, ridiculous rules and over-the-top cancellation fees. Steve Page took his nine year old son on a trip to Auckland earlier this month and because he was on crutches, packed one bag for the two of them so it would be easier to get around. The bag weighed 1.4 kg over the 23kg limit, but well under the 46kg the two passengers were allowed. But Air New Zealand staff wouldn’t allow the bag on, unless he paid an extra fee of $60. Steve refused and says the staff member waved his ticket in his face saying “did you not read the terms and conditions of your ticket?” The staff member was Errol Hardy, a supervisor for Air New Zealand in Nelson. Steve – who is also the publisher of Nelson Weekly – says the actions made him both embarrassed and humiliated, before unpacking the offending 1.4kg from their bag and taking it on board as carry-on luggage. “Both my wife, who although not travelling, was helping us get aboard, and I were extremely embarrassed and humiliated. We couldn’t believe the lack of professionalism and the lack of empathy shown for what we believe was a genuine case for some staff discretion with regard to the ridiculous tiny extra weight when we were in fact still 20kgs short of our combined allowance. We found the whole atmosphere at the Air NZ counter to be unhelpful, grumpy and condescending to us and other passengers.” He says he wanted to tell his story because

However previously it was service and people that made it Air New Zealand.” Air New Zealand was given an opportunity to comment on the incident six days before deadline but had not responded directly to it. view, only to have it cost them $797. She says she booked the flights eight days out. “I just felt they’re taking advantage of having the market to themselves,” she says. Air New Zealand is currently advertising one way flights to Rarotonga from Auckland for $310, and $236 to fly from Auckland to Brisbane. To fly from Auckland to Nelson can cost $399 but Air New Zealand says the cost of running smaller planes means they have to charge more. “An Auckland-Nelson journey involves travelling on the smaller aircraft. The operating costs for these aircraft are higher and the costs are shared by fewer passengers and this is reflected in the ticket prices.” Other Air New Zealand horror stories from Nelsonians include a $460 charge to change one way flights to a different time on the same day. The original cost of the tickets was $189 each. And that of a boy who took his skateboard on a plane to Wellington but when he flew back to Nelson he was told he couldn’t bring it on the plane and was forced to leave it in Wellington with his older brother, who he was visiting. Steve says the whole thing smacks of no competition. “I think Air New Zealand are treating Nelsonians like they are a bit thick and meek, and we are not. Schools pass quake test Your Community Newspaper
Closing the main block at Nelson College would have been a “nightmare”, but it’s a thought headmaster Gary O’Shea shouldn’t have to worry about with the school passing all of the seismic strengthening tests that have occurred so far. Both Nelson College and Nelson College for Girls were among the 224 schools in the country that the Ministry of Education had assessed to see if they were at risk in the event of an earthquake. Even though high profile buildings in Nelson, such as the Trafalgar Centre and Nelson School of Music, were closed for being well below the new building standard, Nelson College – the oldest state school in the country – has proven to be above it. The main block is one of three that will still be assessed in the coming weeks, but Gary says they are the lowest priority, which is why they were left last. “We own our own boarding houses and two of them were built in the late ‘30s. We had a complete seismic report done actually before the Christchurch Earthquake, and both Rutherford and Barnicoat came back at 100 per cent,” he says. “The Ministry of

Education does their thing with the buildings they own, but we weren’t concerned because the two oldest were 100 per cent.” While the building standards have increased over the years, the Ministry ensured the buildings had been structurally upgraded to meet those as they improve and, like other schools with similar structures, they were upgraded in the 1990s. “The school has been pretty proactive in the last 15 years with the work we’ve been doing, even before the Christchurch Earthquake. We’ve got the largest number of boys we’ve had in the school’s history, so the last thing we wanted is for parts of it to be inoperable.” Gary says closing the main block would be a “nightmare”, but he’s confident it will pass. The main block was rebuilt after the Murchison Earthquake severely damaged the previous building in 1929, and Gary highlighted its structural strength by describing it as a “bird’s nest of steel with concrete”.

Firemen burn down house A Hope house was purposely burnt to the ground by about 50 volunteer fire fighters last week – all for a training exercise, described as “valuable” by Richmond Volunteer Fire Brigade chief fire officer Ralph Lonsdale. Richmond Volunteer Fire Brigade was approached by the owners of the house to use it for training purposes, and Ralph says it’s a much cheaper alternative to knocking it down, because of the reduced amount of scrap left over. “They’re obviously wanting to get rid of a house which could cost about $10,000. By the time we’re done with it, there are just one or two truck loads and it’s at minimal cost.” Fire fighters from Richmond, Wakefield, Upper Moutere and Mapua and Rural Fire Forces from Brightwater, Appleby and Hira, plus the Rural Fire Network were all in attendance for
the training exercise. “National trainers come down and explain what goes on and how you deal with it.” Ralph says there’s quite a bit of paperwork needed to be done before burning a house down, including council consent. The urban fire fighters, who had oxygen tanks on their backs, participated in an “internal attack”, which is when the fire fighters go inside the house to put it out. The rural fire fighters did an “external attack”, doing as much work as they could from the outside. All in all, Ralph says it was a valuable experience and something he hoped would occur again. “It’s slightly different [to the real thing], but being inside and seeing how the fire develops is a good learning curve for everyone and they can experience the heat in relative safety.”

Atawhai Playcentre celebrates 50 years
Atawhai Playcentre celebrated 50 years of supporting and nurturing children and families at a special event yesterday. The centre hosted its 50th birthday with a gathering of previous and current playcentre members, and a beautifully decorated cake made by the parents. Playcentre’s were a post war organisation set up in the 1940s as a support service for women and have continued to help families with pre-school children. The Atawhai Playcentre was established in 1964 and was a branch of the Wellington Playcentre Association. Originally located down stairs
in St Peters manse, it then leased a council house on the present site. But in the 1990s, when early childhood regulations changed, they purpose-built the centre that they occupy today. At the moment the Atawhai Playcentre is home to about 33 families and is a great place for people to make new friendships and network, whether they come from overseas or are just new to the area, says supervisor Trish Nalder. “I think it connects with its name Atawhai, it’s a warm, welcoming centre and there’s always plenty of food and generosity here.”

All the money raised from this weekend’s Walk for Water will go towards an entire network of water bores in the African township of Torwood. After last year’s popular recreation event raised $5000, Nelson charity Water for Prosperity was able to visit Torwood and successfully install three ground water bores in the town, where its residents previously had to walk for hours just to access clean water. “These bores will be the main source of water for these people,” says Matt McDowell of Water for Prosperity. “The residents of Torwood are just over the moon with the support they’re getting from Nelson.” The charity was setup by

WW1 heroes now found online
The Roll of Honour of soldiers from the Nelson-Tasman region who died in World War I has been posted on the Tasman Libraries website as part of a project to mark this year’s 100th anniversary of the start of the Great War. Library staff have spent the last year digitising the World War I section of Cyd Daughtrey and Eileen Thawley’s roll of honour series and finished posting it on the library’s Kete Tasman website last month. It contains information on the estimated 430 service men from the Nelson-Tasman region who died in the war that started on July 28, 1914 and now the library is inviting people to add their own family photos, diaries and letters to site. Information services librarian Cathy Vaughan says WWI had a big impact on families in the region and they wanted to put the Roll of Honour online to make it more accessible. It contains the names of the servicemen, the names of their parents, where they lived and where they served and died.

It also provides a link to the Auckland War Memorial Cenotaph Record which includes additional information including the soldier’s occupation, the vessel they sailed on and their destination and where they are buried. “About 2500 people from this area served in World War I in some capacity and nearly one in five didn’t return so it had a very big affect on the region. The aim of our project was to get all the information on these servicemen out there and then encourage families who had relatives in the war to add their own stories.” Cathy says librarians Karen Dickerson and Louise Gribbon did most of the work digitising the information and were deeply affected by some of the stories. However, the roll shows the greatest tragedy was endured by the Harvey family who lost three brothers, Charles, Percy and Frederick, in combat - a fourth brother, William, returned home but died later of wounds. Cathy says people who want
to add their own stories and photos to the Kete can book Richmond Library staff to help them digitise and upload the material. Fair will help ‘Save the Children’ The annual Save the Children Fair will be held this Saturday, with hundreds of donated goods for sale. Held again at the Stoke Memorial Hall, the fair runs from 9am until 12noon. Items for sale include kitchenware, linen, toys, games, sports equipment, collectables, jams, baking, fresh fruit and vegetables, clothing and plants. Close to 60 locals will be volunteering at the fair, which has been “very popular” each year its run, say organisers. The fair is the major fundraising event for Save the Children and the money raised from this year will help in emergency work. Some of it will go towards ongoing projects, like classrooms devastated by Typhoon Haiyan which hit the Philippines last year, while other funds will support Syrian children who have been forced to flee their homes and now live in refugee camps in neighbouring countries, and help support families living in informal settlements in Lebanon.

Wood burners: After reading [the article] on wood burners it occurred to me that the councilors pushing for them to be allowed across our city are the same people in favour of a southern link road being built. Do these people have no care health and air quality whatsoever? Tim Skinner and Rachel Reese wish to leverage loopholes in the RMA to allow wood burners in areas where air pollution is beyond acceptable levels. The argument that heatpumps are too expensive to run for those on a fixed income is difficult to grasp, given the average heatpump costs around 30 cents an hour to run. If a single heatpump was left running 24 hours a day it would cost around $50 / week to run. The state pension is $400/week. On average, a heatpump would be on for no more than 10 hours a day in Nelson due to our high daily range in temperatures in winter therefore the cost would be closer to $25/week. Colin Robertson. Legal highs: I don’t know why the government is still allowing the crap in NZ. My partner is a nurse and had so many people come into the hospital harming themselves or loosing the plot from these ‘legal highs’. Steve Vercoe. I know of several people, it is way dangerous. Nick and Bonnie Kempthrone are used to working to help others, but their latest journey has even them a little nervous. Nick is a Nelson police officer and Bonnie works for Family Education Network and they both volunteer through their church, Richmond New Life. But in just two months the Bishopdale couple will pack up their home and their three young children to move to the Philippines, to work as volunteers for Global Impact in an attempt to help stop human trafficking. Global Impact has been running for around ten years and just last year started a new programme called Born to Fly. It aims to raise public awareness of human trafficking and educating those most vulnerable. Nick says most of the victims are lured into trafficking because they’ve been deceived with promises of high paying jobs and mainly come from the poorer rural areas. Sixty per cent of those who fall into trafficking are for slave labour and forty per cent for the sex industry. Bonnie says that when they heard the details about what the charity does, they were immediately keen to be involved. “You hear tid bits
about human trafficking and you think ‘man, that’s a massive injustice’ and you feel like you’re compelled to do something but you don’t know what. So when the opportunity presented itself we were like ‘yeah, we want to join in and fight. We want to help’.” While the adjustments of moving from Nelson to a city of 1.2 million people will be huge, the Kempthorne’s say they are full of optimism about the trip, although there are a few nerves. “There are some dangers and we will stick out but we are focussed on the positives,” says Nick. “It would be really good to be able to look back at the end of the year and say ‘look at what we achieved, this is where we made a difference’.” Because they will both be volunteering for the year, and Nick will be on unpaid leave, they need to raise $40,000 for their living costs and plane tickets. Police Dogs get their report day in the sun

Last Friday night many of you will have been at the Harvest Summer Fare in Richmond. From a police perspective this was a well run event, and people understood and complied with their responsibilities under the Sale and Supply of Liquor Act. All the feedback we have received was that most of those attending the event had a good night, although a small number of adults did come to our attention as a result of their drinking. The difficulty with this particular event is that it attracts swarms of younger teenagers to the periphery. For some reason, the parents of all these youngsters have been hoodwinked into thinking their offspring are going into Richmond to attend the event and will be managed by some other responsible adult. The opportunities for something to go wrong, with hundreds of underage teens roaming the streets of Richmond unsupervised on a Friday night, are endless. We have dealt with the fallout from such behaviour at previous events and on Friday night police deployed a large number of our Youth Aid Services staff, along with our Public Safety Unit, in an effort to pre-empt any problems arising. While they were kept busy and did issue a number of infringement notices for breaches of the liquor ban, at the end of the day there were no serious issues or harm done. We confiscated a lot of alcohol from youngsters well below the legal age. The message I would like to get out is the police are not a babysitting service and parents need to take adequate precautions so they know where their kids are, who they’re with and what they’re doing. Checking that there isn’t a vast gulf between what they say they’re doing and what they actually get up to would be a smart idea too.
The Nelson SPCA is celebrating a successful Dogs’ Day Out 2014, with record numbers of dogs and their owners attending the annual event at Isel Park on Sunday. The Dogs’ Day Out is an annual event designed to celebrate the importance of dogs
and their caregivers in our community, whilst raising funds for Nelson SPCA. Nelson SPCA Event Coordinator, Summer Marvin, says the organisers and sponsors were pleased with the turnout and funds raised, which was more than $2000.

Terminally ill mum battles to create memories for girls Kelleigh Burkett knows her time with her three gorgeous girls and husband Craig is running out, and she’s trying to cram in a lifetime of memories. The breast cancer sufferer, who’s already battled chemotherapy, radiation, a double mastectomy and reconstruction, will try anything to eke out a little more family time, including experimental drug trials in Australia. “We’re going over to see that if - under any compassionate grounds - they might consider giving me this drug to slow down the cancer and give me more time with my children. That’s all I’m after.” Orignally from Rai Valley, Kelleigh, 41, thought she had overcome the aggressive cancer which was first diagnosed in June 2010, a year after her youngest daughter was born. But last May a tumour emerged in her spine. Earlier this month MRI scans found tumours had formed on her brain and in her liver. She has tried, and continues to try, everything the New Zealand medical community has to offer. This week she finished the latest round of intensive, and “very scary”, brain radiation therapy and has more treatment scheduled in a few days. But she has heard about experimental drug trials in Sydney which, if accepted into the PARP inhibitor trial drug programme, may buy her some more time. Kelleigh, stricken with a BRCA2+ breast cancer which affects just 5 per cent of all patients, is now trying to raise the money to fly to Australia and meet with specialists next month. “I am well aware that the options of avenue of treatment is diminishing in New Zealand,” says the former travel agent who now lives in Christchurch with her family. “We’re a small country and do the best we can. But while I’m well enough at the moment, I’m wanting to just give this promising drug a go in Australia and see if the specialists there can help me in any way. Anything is worth a go.” Kelleigh, who lost an aunt and cousin to breast cancer last year, is also aware that her daughters Charli, 5, Holly, 6, and Paige, 9, have a 50 per cent chance of inheriting the BRCA2+ gene. It puts them at risk of breast or ovarian cancer as early as their 20s. Doctors have given Kelleigh and graphic designer husband Craig, 43, expectations on how long she has. But she “doesn’t accept time frames”. “I feel I have time to put in place some things... memories that will be special for my children,” she says. • Living the life of a one armed paper hanger has its advantages. Television is not one of them. I am surprised at the lack of variety of programmes available. Do you know, I have switched on to The World from Above four times, only to find the same travels through Switzerland on all occasions! Thank goodness they have now switched to Ireland! Might I say as well, that very little can be said for television presenters. All the female presenters find it necessary to offer continuous cheesy smiles and it is hard to know who from whom, because they all seem to have the same hairstyle. Fitting a hearing aid takes more than a moment now, and drying my hands properly is a luxury that I am looking forward to. Long hair has proved to be a problem too. I have had to await my chance, until some obliging family member should pass by. But there are many activities that can be achieved with one hand. Just ask the mother of a new born baby! • One of the good things about this temporary situation is that there is time to listen properly, instead of hastily. I was very interested to hear Christine who works with us in Blenheim, [yes, we have a Christine who works for us in Nelson too], telling us about her planting preparations for garlic, shallots and strawberries. • She has acquired three half mussel floats. Her husband made drainage holes in each, and they are now being filled with all sorts of garden goodies like pea straw, compost, sheep pellets, and

She says that her strawberries were wonderfully tasty and the garlic was huge. So here is a warning. Grab your pea straw now, while it is still available. Use it for your planting preparations now, but keep some aside for later. It won’t be there when you want to spread it around your fruiting strawberries to keep them clean. The other thing is, the floats don’t need to be placed on the garden. Christine's floats sit on gravel. • Another thing that Christine has done, is to plant some potatoes now, and she has placed bales of pea straw on top. She will continue to add more bales as the potatoes show through. I am going to do this too, once I have my freedom back. • Robyn, who also works with us in Blenheim, told me that in the spring when her apple trees are in flower, she secures corrugated cardboard which is generously spread with Vaseline, around the trunks of the trees [with the corrugation on the inside] The grubs crawl up the trunks and don’t get far because the Vaseline stops them in their tracks. She declares it works well. • Five pleasant weeks have gone by, with another week to go. Then the pretty pink plaster will come off and I will be able to fly freely. It hasn’t been a bad experience. There have been opportunities to think outside the square and rustle up some new ideas. More of that later.

Can the company change the terms and conditions of your contract whenever they want to? Remember, the company must provide you with a copy of the contract and you have a 3-day cooling off period in which you can cancel the contract in writing. You’d never say never anyway, but running that 10.68 seconds definitely gave me more confidence. When it comes to the competition I’ve consistently been getting better.” With Athletics Zealand committed to qualifying relay squads for the Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games, it’s certainly a good time to be a sprinter in New Zealand. Andrew is currently part of the ten-man high performance 4x100m squad, although qualifying for the event in Glasgow this year is becoming less likely with the qualification time unable to be met in all three attempts so far. While he hasn’t been part of the A squad that has competed in Australia with the hope of qualifying, Andrew knows a top six, or top four finish at nationals will increase his chances of being involved in future squads. “There are

ten guys in there at the moment and I’m floating around the B or C team. With that time [10.68 seconds] I’d expect to be in the B team, but they haven’t named another squad yet. But a top finish will definitely help the cause.” Even if a New Zealand 4x100m relay doesn’t qualify for the Commonwealth Games, it has stated that qualification for the Olympics is the “longer term objective”. Andrew, who will head to Wellington as part of a 25-strong Tasman team, will also be competing in the 200m sprint. He made the final in that event last year, but is definitely favouring his chances in the 100m instead. His new coach Brodie Hewlett, who Andrew credits for his progress this season, says Andrew’s training should benefit him in the longer sprint – where his personal best is 22.38 seconds. “The training has been looking fairly promising for the 200m. Recently in his last 200m sessions he did his first 21 second 200m which is the fastest he’s done in training. We just haven’t had a chance to test it out [in a race] because of his schedule,” he says. Andrew says “it’s always nice to run fast times”, but his focus will purely be in a placing at nationals, as he hopes to secure his first ever national medal. “But I would love to go out there and run two legal PBs. I’m feeling good.”

Nelson can't get past defending champs

It doesn't get any easier for Nelson. A week after suffering a first-up loss to the defending champions, Waimea Old Boys, in the Car Company division one club rugby championship, Nelson is this week preparing to play its old foe and city rival, Marist. Nelson's pack was its stand out performer on Saturday with props Christian Tupuola, Craig Moore and open-side flanker Ethan Blackadder all putting in strong performances. But it wasn't enough, with Waimea pulling away for the 34-26 win. Nelson co-coach Kade Heke says it was an inexperienced side that played Waimea and he believes every game this year will be tough. "I think the boys will have to get up for every game. Every week there's a strong team to play so it will be a tough year for us, every game will be touch and go." Until Nelson regains stars like Robbie Malneek, Mitchell Scott and David Havili it will have to rely on younger players and Kade says he's been impressed with the way those players have stood up, despite the loss. "Later in the game some of the boys started falling off tackles and that was our downfall really but they're working hard and we're really impressed. "We're looking ahead and we really, want to put in a good performance against Marist." He says the forward pack will be the driving force in the city derby, which is scheduled to be played at Trafalgar Park. "It's going to be a hard ask and a big game and we're counting on our senior boys like Loui

Tigers out-classed by Rabbits The Tahuna Tigers showed plenty of teeth but couldn’t catch the rampaging Richmond Rabbits at the Tahunanui Domain on Saturday, with the visitors winning the season opener, 28-16. The Rabbits were joined by the Victory Phoenix Vikings and Stoke Cobras as round one winners of the Tasman Rugby League competition, with all three games
played at Tahuna. This weekend the Tigers are back in action, travelling to play the Wanderers Wolves under lights in Brightwater. The game kicks off at 8pm, with the Phoenix Vikings playing the Rabbits at 6pm, also at the Brightwater Domain. Stoke will travel to Blenheim to play Wairau Taniwha.
The Richmond Athletic under 17 football team that competed in Auckland over the weekend against the top club sides from around the country. The Paul Cousins-coached side fundraised to reach the tournament, which also featured a team from the Nelson Suburbs club. Both the Nelson sides finished between 9th and 12th in the 24 team competition.
